Life Signs a text-relief-music fusion, created the in 2002 - 2003. This spatial installation is based on a narrative audiovisual experience that works with a parallel level of personal reception. The theme is contemplation, personal space and the transience of the life cycle. A poem, twenty text reliefs combined with a soundtrack of six songs.
Each of the twenty reliefs is inscribed with excerpts from the poem. The reliefs are sculptural works with geometric components. They are made of wood and Styrofoam with a fine smooth surface finish, painted in a monochromatic pastel color scheme. Music is an essential component to stimulate the emotions and imagination of the viewers.
The soundtrack for the installation "Life Signs" is based on the concept, a poem six songs composed in different musical styles. Each song represents a particular phase of life. The first song begins with a recording of a heartbeat of an unborn child. The following songs are musical interpretations of life's development from birth through childhood, puberty, adulthood, and death. Each song has the same lyrics, although the musical compositions vary from each stage of the life cycle. The lyrics are spoken and sung in English and German. The soundtrack was developed and recorded in collaboration with M.D. Kettler (ARTkustik).
